Tielemans set to leave in summer

- By TOM COLLOMOSSE

YOURI TIELEMANS looks increasingly likely to leave Leicester this summer with no progress made in discussions over a new contract. The Belgium midfielder (above) was restored to the starting XI for the 2-2 draw with West Ham and equalised with a penalty in the 45th minute before producing a sparkling second-half display. Although boss Brendan Rodgers said Tielemans had not turned down a new deal, all signs are that he will depart at the end of the campaign as the 24-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2023 — meaning he could leave for free at the end of next season. Rodgers said: ‘He has not declined a new contract. His position is exactly the same. ‘He is a fantastic player and there has been no movement. Until his last days here, he will always give his best.’ Leicester’s second-half performance was their best for some time yet they were undone again by their weakness from set-pieces. Craig Dawson’s late equaliser was the 11th time Rodgers’ men have conceded from a corner in the league this term. ‘You can mark zonally or

man-to-man at set-pieces but you have to have that will to head it,’ admitted Rodgers. ‘Some anxiety has built up around the situation and to concede was deflating.’ West Ham manager David Moyes was upbeat after watching his team stay firmly in the race for a top-four finish. He said: ‘I hope it’s a really valuable point at the end of the season. ‘We mustn’t forget where we’ve come from. Once you are up there in fourth you want to squeeze every last drop out of the players.’
