Are the Winter Olympics a disappointment?

- R. J. DOE, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

THESE must be the most boring Winter Olympics ever for TV viewers. No wonder the British contestants are not inspired to win medals. The initial lack of real snow means it has become a joke event like visiting Father Christmas in a municipal car park. My favourite event is ice-skating, but though I scour the listings, it’s been difficult to find on TV because the schedules can change with little notice. I hope the next Winter Olympics in Italy will be in the traditional snow-clad Alps.

JOAN MOORE, South Molton, Devon.

IT’S embarrassing Team GB is at the bottom of the Winter Olympics table, while small countries such as Belarus have won medals.

G. WARD, Newington, Oxon. TEAM GB has 50 competitors among thousands of athletes taking part in the Winter Olympics. It will be great if any of them come home with a medal. But, if not, they can hold their head high and say: ‘I am an Olympian.’ I salute them all.

CHRISTINE HALLOWAY, East Grinstead, E. Sussex. I AM gratified by the stance taken by our Winter Olympic team to boycott the medal ceremonies. It makes me proud to know the authorities in China haven’t had the benefit of seeing the Union flag.

PAUL ARMSTRONG, London SW13. IT’S wrong that £28 million of lottery cash has funded Team GB when Winter Olympics sports are only available to the wealthy. MICHAEL & ELIZABETH LEES,

Bradford-on-Avon, Wilts. CURLING a sport? Do me a favour, it’s more exciting watching paint dry. Let’s have athletic, passionate sport.

B. J. DAVIES, Coventry, W. Mids. THE BBC sacrifices Bargain Hunt’s millions of viewers so a handful of people can watch the Olympics.
