TikTok star and mum charged with murder after 2 killed in crash

A TIKTOK star and her mother appeared in court yesterday charged with murder after two cousins were killed in a car crash.

Hashim Ijazuddin, 21, and Saqib Hussain, 23, died when their Skoda smashed through the central reservatio­n of a dual carriagewa­y.

Social media ‘influencer’ Mahek Bukhari, 22, who has over 120,000 followers on tiktok and 43,000 on Instagram, was charged with murder. Facing the same offence are her mother Ansreen, 45, and Natasha Akhtar, 21, after the crash on the A46 near Leicester in the early hours of last Friday.

they were remanded in custody by Leicester magistrate­s yesterday and are due to appear at the city’s crown court today.

Police later charged two other suspects with murder. Raees Jamal, 21, and Rekan Karwan, 28, both from Leicester, will appear in court today.

One of the crash victims was said to have made a 999 call from the Skoda but the call handler heard a scream before the line disconnect­ed. One car is believed to have burst into flames during the incident but it is not known which one.

A JustGiving page has been set up in memory of the two crash victims, with an Islamic charity raising funds to build a mosque in their name.

Neighbours of Akhtar, from Alum Rock, Birmingham, yesterday said she worked in a warehouse. Mr Ijazuddin and Mr Hussain grew up together in Banbury, Oxfordshir­e.

Mr Ijazuddin’s family said the former bakery worker and son of a property manager ‘had always said he would die young’.

His aunt Halina Suleman, 30, said: ‘Saqib was Hashim’s cousin. they were very close and we love them both very much. they are our beautiful martyr sons.’ She added: ‘Hashim was the family’s entertaine­r... He was always making us laugh and his last year up to his death left us

She said he was driving at the time of the crash.

‘A friend told us he had been in bed at home on Friday night when he got a call from Saqib asking for a lift.

‘We don’t know why they went to Leicester but they did sometimes go around different towns to eat.’ Mr Ijazuddin’s brother, Zain, 24, said he ‘brought people together’ in life and it was fitting that so many had now come together to remember him in death.

A 20-year-old man who was held on suspicion of murder on Friday has since been released.

Police appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from drivers in the area at the time.
