Burey halts the Rangers push

- By ROB DUNFORD

QUEENS PARK RANGERS saw their promotion push disrupted by Millwall, with Tyler Burey’s decisive goal rounding off victory for the home team. Millwall boss Gary Rowett said afterwards: ‘It’s probably as good a performance the team has put on since I’ve been here — against a very good QPR side. I’m a little bit disappointed that we didn’t win by more than two goals. But there were some big performances tonight. ‘Jed Wallace has got star quality, we know that. Having him back in the team and back fit is a big thing for us.’ The victory made it back-to-back wins for Millwall, who extended their unbeaten home run to four games. QPR produced little in terms of chances and once again failed to close the gap on the top two after Saturday’s surprise defeat by bottom-of-the-table Barnsley. They managed only two shots on target as mid-table Millwall dominated, with Mason Bennett putting them ahead just after half-time. Scott Malone had set him up following a Wallace delivery and Bennett finished first time. Millwall doubled their lead and sealed the points in the 64th minute when Wallace backheeled a Shaun Hutchinson pass in the direction of Burey, who showed great control to curl his effort past goalkeeper David Marshall. QPR did almost pull a goal back in the 73rd minute, but Yoann Barbet’s effort was cleared off the line. Bennett could have put the tie beyond doubt six minutes later, but his shot from inside the area did not possess enough power. Rangers were disrupted after 21 minutes when Lee Wallace was forced off with injury and they never really got going. For their part, Millwall lost Oliver Burke a few minutes later — but his replacement Burey fitted in smoothly and provided that second goal.
