Sunak’s fall from grace: Now he’s last in Cabinet poll

- By Political Editor

RISHI Sunak suffered another blow yesterday after he was ranked bottom of the Cabinet in a poll of Tory activists.

The monthly survey by the grassroots Conservative Home website found the Chancellor had an approval rating of minus 5.2, the only minister in negative territory. Mr Sunak had spent much of last year riding high in the poll, and was second this time last year with an approval rating of 78.7.

After he pressed ahead with a £12billion hike in national insurance, critics said last month’s mini-Budget did too little to help families facing soaring bills. His £50 fine for attending a ‘birthday party’ for Boris Johnson after police said it breached Covid rules also saw support for him fall.

He was rocked by further criticism after it emerged his heiress wife is a non-dom.

Conservative Home editor Paul Goodman said it was ‘perhaps surprising his fall wasn’t larger’ given his run of bad news.
