THE new contracept­ive appears to delay ovulation for around three days, so that it should be impossible to become pregnant during that time.

For those who do not want to use the convention­al Pill – which must be taken every day and can have side-effects such as acne and mood swings – and those who prefer a simple tablet to a coil, injection or condoms, a Pill taken in the days just before sex may be the answer.

However, the new Pill only delays ovulation so if a woman had sex a week after taking it, they could still risk pregnancy.
