BURGER King plans to open 200 restaurant­s in the UK over the next five years after sales jumped and profits recovered.

The fast food chain said total revenues in 2021 climbed by 68pc to £211.7m compared with the previous year, as like-for-like sales lifted by 46pc.

Burger King UK said it plans to open 200 more sites by 2026 and is confident regarding a pipeline of potential locations. The firm swung to a £33.4m profit for the year, compared with a £7.5m loss in 2020.

Chief executive Alasdair Murdoch said: ‘Burger King UK delivered a strong performanc­e in 2021.

‘We have a strong developmen­t pipeline to further grow our UK footprint.’
