A&E at breaking point

-

SO GPs want to reduce their already pretty meagre ‘services’. Have they any conception what this will do to A&E, which is at breaking point?

Most GPs work considerably less than a full week with almost no home visits and every excuse being made not to see patients face to face.

The Government needs to replace the disastrous GP contract with an hourly rate for the work that is actually done.

Of course, GPs should be well paid because they are highly trained and experienced, but no one should receive an enormous salary for working just three days a week.

Instead of reducing surgery hours, they should be open on Saturdays and early and late on weekdays to accommodate patients who work.

If there is a return to home visits, which used to be widely available before the GP contract was introduced, then they should receive an additional payment.

The NHS is failing and radical solutions are needed urgently.
