Don’t UEFA like drama?

-

THERE is a move within UEFA to scrap two-legged semi-finals in the Champions League, in favour of a finals tournament played at one venue across the week. What a wonderful idea. So all the earlier round mismatches — Sporting Lisbon 0 Manchester City 5, Lazio 1 Bayern Munich 4 — we get to see again; the classics like Liverpool’s 4-0 fightback against Barcelona in 2019, or what we hope will unfold in Madrid next week, are gone. Take away the second leg and City’s match with Real on Tuesday is half the game. City lead after 93 seconds and never relinquish that. Madrid are always chasing the game and the only drama is whether they trail by one goal (56 minutes) or two (32 minutes). Why don’t these guys leave it alone for once?
