12 Mighty Orphans, 5.40pm, Sky Premiere

THIS fact-based sports drama is set during the Great Depression when everyone was in search of a little hope. Luke Wilson plays Rusty Russell, the coach with a mysterious past who moulds the children at a Texas orphanage into a promising American football team. Can the Mighty Mites beat the odds to become champions? It’s a heartwarming if familiar story, with The West Wing’s Martin Sheen (pictured with Wilson) adding gravitas as the orphanage doctor — there’s a cameo from Sheen’s Apocalypse Now co-star Robert Duvall, too.
