Time to go back to the office and cut the red tape
HAvING been told a document submitted to the Land Registry in January will not be dealt with until mid-2023, I don’t agree with claims that Government departments are working productively from home.
There is a case for a mix of home and office working when practical and where productivity and efficiency can be proven.
However, it’s not just about the product or service. Being based in the office is vital for interaction between senior and junior staff to aid career development.
Conversations and face-to-face meetings spark ideas and improve performance and service. You can’t read a room over Zoom. Equally importantly, there are none of the distractions that inevitably occur at home.
If home working is so efficient, why have all the backlogs occurred during the past two years?
No one likes commuting, but you have to consider the issue as a whole, not least because of the devastating impact WFH has had on town and city businesses.
