CHAMPIONSHIP

WEEKEND ROUND-UP

- ADAM SHERGOLD

THE scrap to join FULHAM in the Premier League looks set to go to the wire after BOURNEMOUTH and NOTTINGHAM FOREST won well on Saturday. They meet at the Vitality Stadium tomorrow so both teams control their own fate. Bournemouth won 3-0 at BLACKBURN courtesy of Dominic Solanke’s 30th goal of the season and a double from Philip Billing. That kept them in the second automatic spot and three points ahead of Forest, meaning a win tomorrow would secure promotion. ‘I’ve been in football a long time and only a few teams have opportunities to be successful,’ said Bournemouth boss Scott Parker. ‘We have that and we need to embrace it, play with freedom. We did that very well.’ Forest thrashed SWANSEA 5-1, a result that means their goal difference of 34 is one better than Bournemouth’s. Sam Surridge scored the first hat-trick of his career as Steve Cooper’s side showed no mercy against his old club. ‘It is obviously a great result but it could have been more. It should have been 5-1 by half-time,’ said Cooper. FULHAM can wrap up the title with a win when they host LUTON tonight. HUDDERSFIELD retain a minuscule chance of snatching second place after they beat COVENTRY 2-1. The Terriers need Forest to beat Bournemouth and somehow get an 18-goal swing on the final day. But they will certainly be in the play-offs. Harry Toffolo put Huddersfield in front and Faustino Anjorin’s penalty doubled the lead before a late Viktor Gyokeres reply. SHEFFIELD UNITED’S win at QPR on Friday night put them in the box seat to claim the final play-off place. But MIDDLESBROUGH and MILLWALL are still in the chase after comfortable wins on Saturday.
