I AGREE with Elisabeth Luard that many older ladies like me are often treated as though we need protecting (Femail).

Physically, we may not be as able as we once were, but that doesn’t mean our brains have also deteriorat­ed.

Besides being told ‘mind how you go’ or ‘mind the step’ is the insulting habit of not speaking to us directly.

Several times when I have been out with my daughter, she is spoken to while I am ignored. This has even happened in the building society when I was dealing with my account.

My daughter now steps away from me when there is anything to discuss in a shop or bank.

Perhaps I should be grateful people are trying to be considerat­e, but it makes me feel less than dust.
