Camilla teas up a bargain – £1.50 Silver Jubilee mug
WHEN it comes to bargain hunting, the Duchess of Cornwall is clearly no mug.
Yesterday she toured a charity shop and paid just £1.50 for a 1977 Silver Jubilee cup. And Camilla made a surprising revelation – she collects royal memorabilia.
The eagle-eyed duchess, 74, spotted the mug in the shop in Mossley, Greater Manchester, run by Emmaus UK which supports homeless people. The duchess has been the charity’s patron since 2006.
She said excitedly of the 1977 cup, featuring a picture of the Queen: ‘I see you’ve got a nice Jubilee mug! I am going to buy that! I have a whole collection, believe it or not.’ She also picked up a teapot and declared: ‘Ooh, there’s a really nice teapot here for anyone who collects them. I wish I had a bit more time here. It’s a great place to get presents if you have the time.’
During her visit to the area the duchess met performers from the Global Grooves group, including two 14ft-high puppets – with one bending down to greet her. The carnival arts group will be taking part in the official Platinum Jubilee pageant on June 5 and gave Camilla a sneak peek of their performance.
