Wizz passengers soar

-

LOW-cost airline Wizz Air saw a more than 500pc increase in the number of passengers carried last month as the recovery in the travel sector picked up.

The Hungarian airline, which is listed in London, carried 3.6m passengers last month, up 542pc on the 564,634 who flew with it a year ago when the pandemic hammered demand.

Wizz Air has bought extra slots at Luton Airport from Vueling, and now has more than 5.6m seats available on flights this summer.

Shares rose 3pc in morning trading yesterday thanks to impressive passenger statistics. It said its load factor – a measure of how well it fills its planes – jumped to 83.4pc last month from 59.2pc a year earlier.
