RAF ‘snubs’ white pilots
THE Royal Air Force asked for a ‘preferably not white male’ pilot to be its face at a Top Gun press event.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) apologised yesterday for the email from the RAF’s communications team.
Tom Cruise reprises his role as Lt Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick, sequel to the 1986 blockbuster.
An MoD spokesman said the language should not have been used and apologised for any offence caused.
Robert Oulds, director of the Bruges Group think-tank, described the request as ‘divisive and dangerous’.
