deaLINg with matters following the death of my mother-in-law has necessitat­ed contact with three government department­s.

Land registry sent documents for an inheritanc­e six months after probate was completed, but with an incorrect address.

the solicitor sent it back, but I didn’t receive amended documents until seven months later.

a legal case required an explanatio­n of a bank entry paying hMrC. details were requested in October and arrived in april. an apology was given, but why did it take six months to provide four photocopie­s?

an underpayme­nt of the winter fuel allowance was reported to the dWP

in October. I am still waiting. Were the situations reversed, I expect I’d have been fined by now.
