Spurs go for Torres
VILLARREAL are braced for offers from the Premier League after their Champions League semi-final defeat by Liverpool on Tuesday. Representatives from Tottenham were at the Estadio de la Ceramica to watch defender Pau Torres, while Newcastle are tracking forward Arnaut Danjuma. Torres, who is one of the most sought-after centre backs in Europe and has a buyout clause of £55million, has been on Spurs’ wanted list for two years but resisted their attempts to sign him last season because he wanted to play in the Champions League. However, the 25-year-old now feels it is time to test himself on another stage. Newcastle have watched £40m-rated Danjuma in recent weeks and a move to reunite him with boss Eddie Howe is under consideration. Howe signed the Holland attacker for Bournemouth from Club Bruges for £13.7m in 2019 and he is well known to Newcastle’s coaching staff.
