LIVERPOOL STARS’ DERBY DREAM DASHED

- MARCUS TOWNEND

The Derby dream for a clutch of Liverpool players past and present is over after Mr McCann finished fifth behind winner Star of India in the Dee Stakes at Chester — but they will now chase more european glory.

Trainer hugo Palmer said Mr McCann, owned by a syndicate comprising Jordan henderson, James Milner, Alex OxladeChamberlain, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold plus former team-mate Adam Lallana, will drop back to a mile and contest the German 2,000 Guineas later this month.

Palmer said: ‘he had a shout for a moment but he was a nonstayer. The German Guineas was always our insurance policy if he didn’t stay.’
