72 years ago... Charles’ first glimpse of a State Opening
WAVING to his grandfather the king, this was two-year-old Charles’ first taste of a State Opening of Parliament.
The chubby-cheeked toddler stood on a wall at Clarence House and blew kisses as he watched the royal carriages head off to Westminster in 1950.
George VI read out the King’s Speech written by then Labour PM Clement Attlee. This year, the heir apparent attended the opening with the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William.
