Pret chicken off menu in health scare
PRET a Manger has taken chicken off its menu amid fears of a salmonella outbreak.
The popular chicken Caesar baguette and sriracha chicken salad wrap are unavailable on the chain’s website.
A Pret a Manger spokesman said: ‘As a precautionary measure, we’ve temporarily removed the majority of chicken items on our menu due to a potential food safety risk at one of our suppliers.’
The move appears to be linked to problems at supermarkets Aldi and Sainsbury’s.
On Tuesday, Aldi recalled its chicken and bacon Caesar wraps over salmonella fears, while Sainsbury’s ‘blocked’ customers from buying chicken and reportedly removed products to be ‘destroyed’.
Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. The Food Standards Agency advised anyone with the Aldi items in their fridge not to eat them. Customers can return the products to stores for a full refund.
