AS A child, Jane Johnson was told that one of her ancestors had been kidnapped from a Cornish church by Barbary pirates, then sold into the white slave trade. Jane discovered that there had been such a raid in Penzance in 1625, so she set off to Morocco to see if she could find out more. What she actually found was a husband. Now, 17 years on, Jane and husband Abdel take Clare Balding on their favourite walk along the Cornish coastline and explain how Jane’s quest — and a fateful near-death experience — brought the couple together.
