Love Island? My parents aren’t 100% supportive, reveals Owen’s daughter
WITH its skimpy bikinis, bedtime raunchiness and outrageous games, many parents would be reluctant for their daughters to appear on Love Island.
And Gemma Owen has admitted her famous father is among them – as she confessed her family were not ‘100 per cent happy’ with her decision to join the latest line up.
The 19-year-old daughter of footballer Michael Owen also revealed her father had never seen the ITV2 show before and is likely to be uncomfortable when he watches her take part in the challenges.
Speaking ahead of her entry into the Love Island villa in Majorca, Miss Owen said she would be careful not to embarrass her loved ones. Asked if she talked about going on the show with her family, Miss Owen said: ‘I definitely discussed it with them. I wouldn’t say that they were 100 per cent happy with it, but I would definitely say they trust me ... not to do anything to purposely disrespect them.’
Miss Owen – who is the eldest child of former England striker Owen, 42 – added that she would probably avoid having sex in the villa.
She said: ‘What my family think is always going to be in the forefront of my mind as they are the most important thing to me.’ Miss Owen, from Chester, is only months older than her father was when he scored against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup in France.
She said her father had given her few words of wisdom before she flew out to the Spanish island but that her mother had reminded her to ‘keep it classy’.
Miss Owen is an international dressage rider and has been competing for Great Britain since the age of 11.
She will be joined by a number of other contestants announced earlier this week including the show’s first deaf islander. The new series starts on ITV2 next Monday at 9pm.
