Singer Emeli’s ex stabbed to death after row at party

- By Niamh Lynch

SINGER Emeli Sande’s ex-boyfriend was stabbed to death in the early hours yesterday after attending a Jubilee party.

Rapper Hypo, 39, was killed when a ‘trivial row’ broke out at the bank holiday gathering just after midnight.

Paramedics rushed to the party in Woodford Green, east London, but the musician was pronounced dead at the scene. Footage of medics attempting to resuscitate him was shared online.

Hypo and Miss Sande are believed to have been in a relationship for a year before splitting in 2017 but are said to have remained friends.

They worked together at the Hard Copy record label, where the late music entrepreneur and DJ Jamal Edwards also worked as a producer.

It is understood Hypo got engaged last week. He shared videos of himself travelling in a Bentley and dancing at the party with his 23,000 Instagram followers hours before his murder.

Hundreds of friends and fans paid tribute to him on social media, with many sharing videos of him performing.

No arrests have been made but police believe some party guests may have captured the murder on their mobile phones.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, of the Metropolitan Police, said: ‘This man was attacked at a party and we know a large number of people would have been in attendance. I would urge anyone who is yet to speak with us to come forward.

‘It is possible that events leading up to the stabbing, and perhaps the murder itself, were captured on people’s phones. Please take a look and call us.’

Miss Sande, 35, rose to fame in 2009 and has scored two No 1 singles – Read All About It with Professor Green and Beneath Your Beautiful with Labrinth.

She won British Album of the Year at the 2013 Brits and Best British Female Solo Artist in 2013 and 2017.

In 2017, she was made MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to music.
