PRUNE SPRING SHRUBS
AS SPRING-FLOWERING shrubs come to the end of their displays, many could benefit from pruning. Early mock orange varieties, spring and winter viburnums, left, and winter-flowering honeysuckles can all be pruned. Springblooming rosa banksiae varieties are also over. You can cut them back hard. In response, they will produce a bountiful supply of blossom next spring. Lilacs do not need pruning. With young plants, I remove any faded blossoms.
