WRITER-DIRECTOR Rian Johnson owes a debt to Agatha Christie and films based on her work, but he’s also put effort into bringing us something new — something smart and entertaining. Daniel Craig (pictured) stars as private eye Benoit Blanc, who is called to the sprawling home of aged mystery writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). When the victim meets his maker, there is no shortage of suspects. The Thrombeys are a family thick with bad blood — but at least the maid (Ana de Armas) can be trusted (she can’t lie without being violently sick). Let sleuthing and squabbling commence . . .
