Treated as disposable

-

A BIRD’S natural predators are foxes, badgers, rats, otters and hedgehogs.

But the main killers of birds are other birds, such as herons, crows, magpies, jackdaws and seagulls.

How many cats have even seen a cuckoo, never mind caught one? They are a high-level flying bird that rarely comes anywhere near striking distance of a feline. Their decline is down to habitat loss.

Cats are domestic animals and should be cared for by their owners. That includes neutering, feeding, protecting and managing.

They should never be let out at night and only roam enclosed gardens. However, people dump, ignore or treat them as disposable. I’d like to see all domestic animal owners licensed.

DAVE MOORE, Boroughbridge, N. Yorks. CATS are only following their instincts by hunting birds, rabbits and rodents. Maybe birds are less wary of danger as they become used to eating from feeders.

One of my cats was attacked and badly injured by a dog, so I think it’s canines that should be muzzled. If I tried to keep my cats in overnight, the house would not be in a habitable state in the morning. Even if I could muzzle them, they would quickly find a way to remove it.

PENNY SUAREZ, Dorchester, Dorset. I HAVE the perfect solution to stop cats killing wildlife. I have owned two Persians and two Birmans that only left the house on long leads and collars.

They will chase a frog but never catch it. I’ve owned my cats from kittens and as they have never roamed free, they sit on my lap to be attached to their leads.

ANN NEEDLE, Crewkerne, Somerset.
