More than 10 clubs in race to sign Bale

- By ADRIAN KAJUMBA

MORE than 10 clubs have thrown their hat into the ring to sign Wales World Cup hero Gareth Bale. Cardiff are increasingly hopeful they can pull off a major coup and land Bale, but they are just one of a long list of sides keen to help him continue his club career ahead of Qatar. Bale inspired Wales to reach their first World Cup finals since 1958 on Sunday against Ukraine and will now continue playing club football, at least until the tournament, which starts in November. He is available on a free after leaving Real Madrid, where he spent nine years and won 16 trophies. Championship Cardiff believe there is a real chance they can convince Bale, who has also played for Southampton and Tottenham, to return to the city where he was born. He earned around £600,000 a week at Madrid but money is not a motivating factor and Cardiff believe the 32-year-old could join for comparatively low pay. Wales still have three games over the next week and Bale will focus on them and an end of season break before deciding his next move.
