Duchess’s dazzling robes... that she took from Charles!

-

LIKE many women it seems even the Duchess of Cornwall isn’t immune to raiding her husband’s wardrobe.

At Saturday night’s Platinum Party at the Palace, Camilla appeared on stage with the Prince of Wales wearing a beautifully embroidered robe that was actually given to him on an official visit to Saudi Arabia in the early 1990s.

The exquisite navy blue ‘ daqlah’ was made by renowned Saudi designer Yahya Al Bishri and is traditionally worn over the white ankle-length robes favoured by Middle Eastern men, known as thobes. Thanks to Camilla’s talented dresser Jacqui Meakin, who used to work for the late Queen Mother, the sleeves and length of the robe have been altered to fit her.

She also picked out stunning square-drop diamond earrings and a silver bracelet to echo the daqlah’s glittering silver thread.

The overall effect was dazzling as the duchess stood next to her husband while he addressed the crowd at Buckingham Palace in tribute to his mother.
