Jilted officer ‘knocked out ex-lover’

- By Andy Dolan

AN Army lieutenant left his former lover unconscious after angrily pushing her over a sofa at a regimental dinner, a court martial heard.

Lt Patrick McGregor is alleged to have shoved Second Lieutenant Hannah Bird, 27, causing her to bang her head.

Second Lieutenant Bird – the first woman ever to commission as an officer in the Army’s Guards Division – told the hearing he attacked her as they argued.

She told Bulford Military Court in Wiltshire: ‘I tried to leave and walk past him, but Lt McGregor stopped me... He used both hands to push me backwards. I next remember waking up on the other side of the sofa. I didn’t know what had hit me...’

She said a colleague at the scene told her: ‘Patrick had pushed me over the sofa and I had been unconscious for about ten seconds.’

However, McGregor’s lawyer told the court 2nd Lt Bird fell at the do at the Cavalry and Guards Club in central London because she was ‘drunk and wearing high heels’. The pair were said to have started dating after she joined the London Guards in 2019 and was placed under his command. McGregor, left, denies assault. The trial

continues.
