GENETIC INVESTIGATIONS
DNA Family Secrets, 9pm, BBC2
THIS fascinating series is showing that DNA evidence is much more than a crime-solving aid, and can help to fill some of the gaps in people’s lives. This week, we meet Michaela and Richie, who only realised they could pass down the genetic disorder ‘bubble boy disease’ when they had their son, Arlo. Now, they’re testing their second child’s DNA to discover if he has to undergo lifesaving gene therapy. Georgina (pictured), meanwhile, who was conceived 34 years ago when her mum had a holiday romance with a Portuguese waiter, wants to trace her father and find out if he’s still alive, and Matthew, who grew up never knowing his father’s identity, wants to know if his heritage is actually Caribbean.
