MS MARVEL, DISNEY+

-

THERE’S a touch of Peter Parker to Kamala Khan (played by newcomer Iman Vellani, pictured), the sweet and awkward high schooler who idolises superheroes then suddenly discovers she has powers of her own. Vellani is great casting — she was already a Marvel superfan, so doesn’t have to fake her character’s starry-eyed regard for the realm of the superpowered, and she’d even dressed up as Ms Marvel before at Halloween. What’s more, Vellani was born in Karachi, Pakistan, before her family moved to Canada when she was one, helping her to slip into the role of Pakistani American Khan, who became Marvel’s first Muslim superhero when she made her debut in the comic books in 2013. New episodes of the six-part series follow weekly, and there’ll also be more to come from Khan/Ms Marvel next year on the big screen. She’s set to be a key part of The Marvels, along with this teenager’s particular idol, Captain Marvel — so expect more awe from her then.

ONE-HIT WONDERS

Girls5Eva, Sky On-Demand/Now IMAGINE a U.S. sitcom about a onehit wonder version of the Spice Girls reforming in their 40s, and you’ve got the idea of this sharp series, which returns for a second season. It’s got clever, 30 Rockstyle humour, but also characters that feel real, even when they’re in the most absurd situations, like working as a judge on spoof show American Warrior Singer as a result of money woes, or suddenly requiring a new knee.

LAST-EVER EPISODE

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 9pm, E4 THE insane Adrian Pimento (Jason Mantzoukas, pictured) turns up during this hourlong send-off for the sharp NYPD comedy. He’s just one part of a double-bill finale that’s definitely the high point of this swansong season, and sees Holt (Andre Braugher) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) leaving the 99th Precinct for their new roles. Before it, at 8pm, Goodbye Brooklyn Nine-Nine takes a look back at some of best moments from the hit sitcom’s eight series.

NEW FLORIDA COMEDY

Killing It, 10pm, E4 FANS sad to see the end of Brooklyn Nine-Nine might be cheered up by the arrival of this oddball new comedy from that show’s co-creator, Dan Goor. The Office U.S.’s Craig Robinson plays a struggling security guard introduced to the world of snake hunting by Aussie comic Claudia O’Doherty’s taxi driver.
