SAUDI TOUR EXPLAINED...

-

WHAT IS IT?

THE field is just 48 players, compared to 120 for most events on the PGA Tour. They will compete in stroke-play across three rounds rather than 72 holes, with no halfway cut. They will go off in a shotgun start, meaning groups on different holes rather than the traditional first-hole start.

WHAT IS THE TEAM ELEMENT?

A DRAFT system will see players split into 12 teams of four. For the first two rounds, the best two stroke-play scores will count for each team. For the final round, the best three scores will count.

HOW OBSCENE IS THE MONEY?

VERY. There is a £25m prize pot for each of the eight events on the Tour. The lowest-ranked player will pocket £95,000. The lowest total score from the 12 teams wins an extra £2.4m on top of any other money earned. Players have also received huge signing on fees.
