Don’t forget teachers
IT’S heart-warming to read of Euan Blair’s MBE for services to education.
Presumably it was a straightforward decision to give an honour to a former PM’s son who has steered a lot of school leavers into jobs.
But spare a thought for the thousands of teachers on modest salaries who have devoted their lives to their pupils. My husband has been a teacher for more than 30 years and helped thousands of youngsters.
When the Government asked retired teaches to return to the classroom to help out, he volunteered so pupils would not be sent home.
He is 80 and, though he enjoys the challenge, he’s exhausted after a day or two spent with these wonderful teenagers. Presumably his MBE is in the pipeline. VIVIENNE JONES,
