Worcester players may sue over unpaid wages

- By ALEX BYWATER

Worcester players are considering legal action after several squad members were not paid on time for the month of May, Sportsmail can reveal.

the Warriors finished their season last weekend with victory over fellow strugglers Bath but off the field, they are battling worrying financial problems.

It is understood that players at sixways have had their salary payments pushed back on several occasions over the 2021-22 campaign — raising serious concern among the playing group.

those worries have been taken to the senior hierarchy at Worcester with the hope that the situation can soon be resolved.

All 13 Premiership clubs are continuing to recover from financial difficulty in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic and Worcester’s situation is further proof of the league’s fragility.

elsewhere, english rugby’s breakout star Henry Arundell has revealed a trip to the pub with new team-mates ellis Genge and Marcus smith helped him settle into eddie Jones’s squad.

London Irish’s Arundell is in the england party training in London this week ahead of next weekend’s game against the Barbarians and July’s tour of Australia.

He was also part of a training camp last month where Genge and smith took the youngster under their wing.

‘It is the kind of thing you dream about,’ Arundell said of his senior england selection. ‘to get it now is obviously very exciting.

‘I was very nervous at first but a lot of players were more welcoming than I thought they would be, to be honest. You are going into the big-dog zone and you think everyone will be horrible, but they are a great group of guys and are really looking after me.

‘We went to the pub and I sat with him (Genge) and Marcus and they were both really good with calming the nerves.’ l LeIcester tIGers have confirmed the death of tom Youngs’ wife tiffany after a long battle with illness. tiffany was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2014. In April, former Lions hooker Youngs, 35, retired so he could care for his partner.
