Raducanu to play Wimbledon as scans show minor strain

Emma Raducanu is expected to be fit for Wimbledon after scans showed no long-term damage following her retirement from the nottingham Open on Tuesday. However, the uS Open champion (left) will miss next week’s WTa event in Birmingham after being told to rest for several days.

The British no1, 19, is instead set to take a wildcard for the Rothesay International at Eastbourne — the traditional lead-in event before SW19 — which starts a week on monday. Raducanu has been diagnosed with a side strain after pulling out of her first-round match in nottingham just seven games in. She said: ‘It was disappointing to go out. I’m looking forward to being on the match court soon to enjoy the rest of the grass season.’
