Ezra’s Jubilee lyric switch

-

LYRICs for a song at the Jubilee concert were changed after the ‘powers that be’ asked that a reference to death be removed, it has emerged.

George Ezra, pictured, performed Green Green Grass for the Platinum Party At The Palace last weekend. But the line ‘Green green grass, blue blue sky, you better throw a party on the day that I die’ was removed – leaving fans baffled.

Ezra, 29, told The sun his ‘gut instinct’ was not to change the song, but: ‘I don’t know if it came from the royals or the show producers, but it’s obvious – if you’re playing for the Royal Family and the powers that be say, “We don’t want you to sing that lyric”, you are not going to argue.’

He said the song is about ‘celebrating life’ and is not as morbid as it might seem. Ezra admitted he did not quite realise the importance of the occasion, adding: ‘It was only when we got on stage that I realised, “Oh, this really is huge”.’
