Boy, 15, killed saving mum from knifeman

Police hunt for attacker after horror at home

- By James Tozer

A KILLER was being hunted last night after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death and his mother seriously injured in a ‘ferocious’ knife attack.

The boy is understood to have been trying to protect his mother, in her 40s, at their home.

Police launched a murder investigation after the ‘domestic’ attack in Manchester on Thursday evening.

They said it was thought the mother and her son knew the killer. Residents of the terraced street in the Miles Platting area spoke of their horror as forensics teams searched drains and nearby grassland.

One woman said the suspect ‘just ran in and stabbed the son and the mother’. She added: ‘There was loads of screaming, then all the police and ambulances came. I didn’t think anything like that could happen around here. It’s scary.’

Another resident said the woman lived in the house with three children, adding: ‘They were a quiet family with very polite children.

‘We would see the boy going to and from school.’ Police were called at around 9.30pm on Thursday and discovered the teenager and his mother with serious stab wounds. They were rushed to hospital, but the boy died around an hour later.

Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand described it as a ‘ferocious attack’. She said: ‘We are working at a tremendous pace to find the person that did this and to take them off the streets and into custody where we can continue to piece together what we know.

‘Last night’s events are nothing short of devastating as a teenage boy has tragically lost his life and a mother is grieving in hospital after also being seriously attacked.’

The suspect is described as an Asian man, in his mid-40s, of a medium build and height, and wearing dark clothing.

He was last seen walking along a nearby road after the attack.

Detectives have urged anyone who sees the suspect not to approach him but to call 999. The stabbed woman was last night in a stable condition and being supported by specialist officers.
