RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHES LIKE THE ROYALS

-

THE Queen is very hot on restyling her clothes to get good wear out of all her outfits.

And it was noticeable at the Jubilee celebrations that other royals had taken a leaf out of her book and were wearing old favourites rather than splashing out on something new.

Royal fashion-watcher Miranda Holder says: ‘The white Alexander McQueen coat-dress that Kate wore at the Jubilee was originally seen when she attended one of the G7 summits. And Camilla re-wore a Bruce Oldfield number at the pageant.’

Give your clothes the royal treatment by upcycling and restyling them to extend your wardrobe and cut costs.

Holder says that using different accessories is the quickest way to change up an outfit.

‘You can transform a daytime look to an evening look with a jazzy belt, earrings and a cool bag,’ she says. ‘Scour vintage markets, thrift shops and discount sites, as you can often pick up unusual things that will make an outfit look new.

‘Customise what you have. You might love an old blouse but don’t like its belt or the buttons, so update it. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube on how to rework things, from adding beads to sewing patches on or dyeing clothes.’

Restyle a dress that’s seen better days into a skirt or top. T-shirts can be made into nightwear. Old jeans can become trendy summer shorts.

It’s also worth going through your wardrobe to see what you could sell. Use Vinted, Depop, eBay, Preloved or one of the other second-hand websites to turn your clothes into cash.
