FA’S WHOLE NEW BOARD GAME
THE FA are working on a proposal that would see them set up a new board to act as an independent regulator for the sport in line with the recommendations of the Tracey Crouch review. In what would be one of the most radical changes to their governance in their 155-year history, the FA would establish a new completely independent board to sit above the existing one, which consists of representatives from the professional and grassroots game.
In addition to getting approval from Government, the FA would also require approval from the FA Council and FA Board in order to make the change, which could prove challenging as the move would see their powers reduced. The Premier League, EFL and the clubs are likely to be supportive, however, as they would rather see the independent regulator emerge from within football rather than being imposed on them by the Government.
