EVERYDAY HEROES
Extraordinary Portraits, 8.30pm, BBC1
STUART PEARSON WRIGHT is a ‘subversive realist’ portrait artist who works out of a 17th-century house in Suffolk that sits in the grounds of a derelict castle. He’s a quietly eccentric character, and not the obvious choice for painting Harriet, a down-to-earth cancer survivor who raised more than £100,000 to buy an MRI scanner in the Shetlands — by knitting and selling hats. The two of them (pictured) turn out to have a quiet modesty in common, though, and head to Shetland to figure out what’s important to Harriet in a heartwarming start to this new series.
