ROBY IS RECORD-BREAKER AS SAINTS GO MARCHING ON

- HENRY CLARK

JAMES ROBY enjoyed a record-breaking day to remember as he scored in ST HELENS’ battling 26-18 win over HULL KR. The Saints skipper, 36, made his 455th Super League appearance at the Totally Wicked Stadium, taking him clear of Kevin Sinfield for the most top-flight appearances by any player.

Rovers’ Lachlan Coote threatened to spoil the party against his former club, with two tries and three conversions. But his second try came after Konrad Hurrell had crossed for the Saints’ fifth try of the afternoon to secure a win which extended their lead at the top of the table to four points. WARRINGTON let a lead slip four times before eventually falling to a 30-24 defeat by WAKEFIELD. Daryl Clark and Gareth Widdop gave the visitors an early advantage before Wakefield began to claw their way back into the game. Kelepi Tanginoa’s try three minutes from time gave Trinity the lead for the first time in the game and a narrow victory against the Wire, who suffered their fifth straight defeat. Elsewhere an injury-hit CASTLEFORD claimed their second away win of the season with a 20-14 victory over bottom club TOULOUSE.
