THEY have shown incredible resilience in thrilling fans for 60 years.

But now the Rolling Stones’ tour celebrating their marathon career has been hit by a bout of Covid.

They cancelled a gig in Amsterdam last night after frontman Mick Jagger, 78, tested positive for the virus. The singer began to show symptoms as he arrived at the venue earlier in the day. A band statement said yesterday: ‘The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry for tonight’s postponement, but the safety of the audience, fellow musicians and the touring crew has to take priority.

‘The show will be rescheduled for a later date.’ It was unclear last night if other gigs will be affected – they are due to play in Switzerland on Friday, in Italy next Tuesday and at Hyde Park in London on June 25. Sir Mick tweeted: ‘I’m so sorry that we’ve had to postpone the Amsterdam show with such short notice tonight. I have unfortunately just tested positive for Covid. We aim to reschedule the date ASAP and get back as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.’

The Stones, including guitarists Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, 75, played a gig at Anfield in Liverpool last week on their Sixty tour of Europe.

US drummer Steve Jordan, 65, is performing with the band following the death of Charlie Watts, 80, last year. They also have a string of shows lined up for next month, including another gig at Hyde Park and a tour finale in Sweden.
