Perfect coiffure

-

I WAS intrigued to see the hairwashing advice of Zoe Irwin, Vogue’s blow-dry queen (Femail).

It costs £145 for a hair-dryer, though a state-of-the-art version for £329 is recommended, plus £200 for six ‘essential’ hair products.

I follow my hairdresser’s free advice and leave at least six weeks between shampoos. In between, if needed I rinse my hair in lukewarm water.

I use a tiny amount of shampoo — only enough to cover a thumbnail — rubbed between my palms and fingers before being massaged on to my scalp, from behind the ears and towards the front.

My hair is then rinsed until the water runs clear. A towel wrapped around my head soaks up the excess water without rubbing. When the hair is no longer dripping, I brush it and leave it to dry naturally.

After 40 years of following this advice, my hair is as thick and glossy as ever.

It has cost me little over the years to keep it so, allowing me to afford what is essential: a good haircut.
