D-day for gymnastics

- DAVID COVERDALE

BRITISH GYMNASTICS will face their day of reckoning this week when a damning report is published into abuse within the sport. The Whyte Review — an independent investigation commissioned in July 2020 — has now delivered its findings to UK Sport, Sport England and British Gymnastics and will be released on Thursday. Sources have told Sportsmail the lengthy report is ‘emotional’ and will make for ‘difficult reading’ both for the victims of abuse and the coaches implicated.

The conclusion of the Whyte Review comes after it emerged Eloise Jotischky, a former national acrobatic gymnast, has won a pay-out from British Gymnastics for the abuse she suffered. The 19-year-old is one of more than 40 gymnasts to make a claim against British Gymnastics over abuse allegations but is the first to reach a financial settlement.
