I WAS questioning my three-year-old granddaughter Callie on animal sounds. After we had exhausted a number of wild animals, we progressed to pets and then farm animals.

Each question was answered quickly and correctly until we came to: ‘So, what sound does a horse make?’

Callie hesitated, thought for a while, then said: ‘Giddy up.’
