Suspect ‘admits killing Briton’

A SUSPECT held over the disappearance of a British journalist and his guide in the

Amazon has confessed to killing and dismembering the pair, it was reported last night.

Citing police sources, CNN said one of the two brothers arrested told officers they had killed Dom Phillips, pictured, and his indigenous expert Bruno Pereira and gave the location of their bodies. Rival networks Band News and Globo News reported a confession by both suspects.

Witnesses saw police take a masked and hooded man they described as a suspect out on the river where the two men vanished. Police did not comment on the reported confession.

Mr Phillips, 57, and Mr Pereira, 41, went missing in a remote part of the rainforest on June 5 – days after receiving threats. The region is infested by illegal loggers, miners and drug gangs.
