Have Chinese heard aliens?
SCIENTISTS in China claimed to have intercepted radio signals from an alien civilisation – before Beijing officials yesterday ordered state newspapers to scrub coverage of the story.
Claims that China’s Sky Eye telescope may have picked up signs of alien civilisations were published by the Science and Technology Daily, the official newspaper of the Beijing regime’s ministry of science and technology.
But it soon deleted the announcement from its website, with other state-run media outlets swiftly following suit.
Sky Eye, which has a diameter of 500metres (1,640 feet) and is the world’s largest radio telescope, was said to have detected narrow-band electromagnetic signals that were different to those previously captured.
Zhang Tonjie, chief scientist of an extraterrestrial civilization search team, was quoted saying some kind of radio interference could be behind the signals.
