Tory hopeful’s Shipman gaffe
THE Tory candidate in Wakefield’s by-election last night said voters should trust politicians following the former MP’s conviction for sexually assaulting a boy because ‘we still trust GPs’ after the conviction of serial killer Harold Shipman.
Nadeem Ahmed raised eyebrows by suggesting the West Yorkshire seat’s previous Conservative MP, Imran Ahmad Khan, was ‘one bad apple’ after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager.
Mr Ahmed is running to replace Khan after his conviction triggered a by-election. He told The Telegraph Khan’s ‘disgusting’ actions should not affect other MPs. He said: ‘Shipman... was a GP, he was a trusted professional... Have we stopped trusting GPs? No.’
