Here’s to winning these ladies of HAT-SCOT!

- By Alice Wright

THE fair ladies of Royal Ascot were out in force at the races yesterday – but some had gone that extra mile to turn heads.

Adorned with feathers, flowers, flags and even a flapping parrot, the hats were the ultimate conversation starter as the crowds mingled on a gloriously sunny Ladies’ Day.

While the creations – and their wearers – didn’t wilt on the hottest day of the year so far, it’s likely the accessorising will be simpler today, when an even hotter 33C (92F) is forecast. It has prompted race organisers to relax the formal dress codes for the guests’ comfort.

Royals including Princess Anne, her daughter Zara and son-in-law Mike Tindall were in attendance to cheer on three of the Queen’s horses.

Jockey Frankie Dettori rode two – Saga and Reach For The Moon – and came second in both stakes. The final horse, Tactical, failed to place.

The Queen is said to be watching the races at Windsor Castle due to her mobility issues.
